A year at our school
Book Week 2025
FISC was alive with characters today for our Book Week Parade — and yes, Wednesday even turned up on a Wednesday! From Mad Hatters to pirates, foxes and more, the parade was bursting with colour, fun and creativity.
Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award & Year 11 SLR Overnight Hike
Participants in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and the Year 11 SLR class took part in a two-day overnight hiking adventure.
The first day involved a 16.8 km trek along the stunning Coast Track in the Royal National Park, from Bundeena Wharf to Wattamolla. After a full day of hiking, students set up camp at Bonnie Vale, cooked their own dinners, and spent the evening playing Uno and Charades.
The second day featured the Wodi Wodi Track near Coalcliff—a challenging uphill hike that rewarded everyone with breathtaking views over the escarpment, making it the perfect spot for a well-earned lunch break.
Throughout the experience, students developed valuable outdoor skills, built friendships, and deepened their understanding of the natural environment.
A big thank you to Kayte, Mel S., and Josh Z. for organising and supporting the journey, and congratulations to all Duke of Ed participants on completing their first Adventurous Journey!
Congratulations to Ethan Zappelli
Ethan recently represented the Wollongong electorate at The Y NSW Youth Parliament 2025, where he was elected Lead Sponsor of the Economic Sustainability Committee. He led the development of a bill to support targeted investment in regional communities, which was successfully passed and will be recommended to NSW ministers.
Ethan also served as Shadow Minister for Economic Sustainability on the opposition frontbench and was nominated as a candidate for Youth Governor. He was awarded the Carlos Sanvee Award for Citizenship for his outstanding leadership and commitment to civic values.
A proud achievement for Ethan and a promising sign of the leadership he continues to demonstrate.
We love our school for its supportive community and commitment to every student’s success. Our child feels safe and inspired every day. — a parent of Five Islands Secondary College
