Additional learning support
We proudly support students with disability and additional learning needs so they can take part in all areas of school life.
We have a small, caring and skilled team who provide a range of supports across the school.
General support is provided in many classes, where all students can benefit from an additional helper in the classroom.
We also ensure priority, pro-rata support for students with additional funding on a needs-basis, such as Integration Funding Support for diagnosed disabilities, Out of Home Care Plans and those with IEPs or adjustment plans, including targeted supports. Models for support vary - most often it is targeted in class, and at times through withdrawal, and small group tuition modes.
Support that fits your child's needs
We best identify student’s needing help when:
- Students, parents and carers raise concerns or ask for support – our enrolment process is key and invites opportunity to build a picture of needs. Our Team reviews all enrolments and plans for any additional needs flagged through this process.
- Teachers notice changes in learning or behaviour or identify concerns when reviewing assessment results and learning progress. Teachers noticing additional needs make referrals to our team for review.
In planning, we work with students closely and invite collaboration with carers and families. We aim to facilitate teachers and support staff working together with families and students.
All plans are monitored through regular check-ins, to review planned supports. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed.
Carers, families and students are always welcome to approach our friendly team to discuss their needs and ideas for how we may be able to accommodate reasonable adjustments and provide additional supports on a needs-basis. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
Dependent upon need, additional learning supports might include:
- Differentiation – such as extra guidance, simpler content or different focus during lessons
-
Small group tutoring to provide targeted literacy and numeracy tuition
-
Disability provisions and assessment adjustments:
- more time
- simpler language
- breaks during tasks
- different ways to complete a task (e.g. oral presentations instead of written tasks).
- Additional support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- Identifying or catering to identified high potential and gifted students with advanced learning needs
-
Physical accommodations and adjustments to classrooms:
- accessible classrooms
- assistive technology
- instructional resources
