In 2014, we sought to strengthen links with our closest neighbouring schools by joining the permaculture living classroom project. This has now become one of our major curriculum and student engagement programs.
The produce is distributed in a number of ways - some is given away to students, staff and the community and some is used as the ingredients in Hospitality and Food Technology. The garden is about a range of programs for students. These include permaculture and horticulture skills as part of certified training and as a way to engage students and given them a purpose at school.
One of the strengths of our permaculture program is the many ways that our students lead the program. One example is how our students now own the worm farm green waste initiative. This is a whole school sustainability measure and involves managing and monitoring green waste collection and reuse as part of the permaculture (closed loop) soil building process.
